LOGLINE: Three devastating teenage stories fuse beneath the calm of a quiet, average neighborhood.
Featuring compelling, identifiable teenage and adult characters, ROUGH WINDS is a gripping drama which explores the theme of needing to find inner acceptance before you can travel to a new place. Like growing up, you must ride through the storm to reach a clear sky of hope and dreams. Told realistically and unflinchingly with few characters/locations, it presents a vivid, unforgettable story.

Character Breakdowns:

JESS: She’s a vulnerable 17 year-old, with an attitude problem. She only feels comfortable with her best friend Steve. With everybody else she is defensive and distant. Finally you discover she pushes everybody away, because she’s been raped.

SALLY, Jess’s loving mom in her 40s or 50’s. Average mom. She worries a lot about Jess who has tried to commit suicide. In the end she is devastated when she discovers her Brother had raped Jess.

TOM, an unassuming, quiet, educated man in his 40’s or 50’s. He is Sally’s brother and is hiding a horrible secret.

CONNOR ,a 18 year old boxer, who’s focused on going pro. He is in the closet and has serious anger issues. He’s introverted and this might be because he has a slight speech impediment, a difficulty pronouncing “r”s, which he is profoundly self-conscious about. He treats his old friend Steve with the cold shoulder because he’s gay and he doesn’t pay much attention to Ann, the girl he’s dating, because all he thinks about is boxing.

COUCH, tough guy, kind of sexist and homophobic. He’s a bad influence on Connor with out noticing.

ANN, only 16,A cute girl-next-door type, with self confidence problems. She is best friends with Lisa, who tries to help her get a date with her dream boy, Connor. When things don’t go smoothly with Connor, Ann takes it very personal and turns bulimic.

KATHERINE, Anna’s mom. She’s in her 40’s. She is a workaholic principal who doesn’t notice Ann is in a downwards spiral. She is very uptight and never lets lose.

LISA , she’s 19, high school drop out, very beautiful, always popular and cool. Becomes Anna’s good friend, but turns out to be a horrible influence on Ann.

BARRY, 18, he’s a good friend of Connor’s and Lisa’s boyfriend. He’s wealthy, good-looking and all he worries about is scoring with the ladies.
