Tara Ann Johnson - Auditioning for Sit-Com
Auditioning for Sit-Com - With LA Sitcom Casting Director
Tara Anne Johnson, CSA
In Tara’s own words: “The main projects I’ve worked on that everyone has heard of are…
“3rd Rock From The Sun” - 3rd thru current 6th season
“That ’70s Show” - Pilot thru 2nd season, (while working at Liberman/Hirschfeld and Liberman/Patton–one of LA’s hottest sit-com casting offices for 3 years). Next Tara worked with Tracy Lilienfield Casting (who also casts “Will & Grace,") where she cast NBC’s Inside Schwartz and a new show for the FX network, before “going freelance". Her latest projects include the pilots for NBC’s Coupling, WB’s Mr Logan, (starring Little Bow-wow) WB’s-Celebrity Look-alikes, UPN’s “Rock Me Baby” with Dan Cortese as well as her second season of Nashville Star. Tara of course, is also doing new pilots every season.”
Before that I worked with Mark Sikes at PM Entertainment. The NBC pilot I just finished working on was with Amy Lippens Casting. We also cast “Once & Again” (1 hour ABC drama) and many features. I have also cast several independent films, (independently from the offices that I have worked in) including one short that is currently running on Cinemax called “Food For Thought.” I have also cast a short for Partnership For A Drug Free America.
My students work ON-CAMERA in every class. Sometimes with a partner, but most of the time with me. Sometimes set up like an actual Producer Session or Pre-Read Session where they do not get to see the other students “auditioning” for their part… they only see who “booked” the job. Other times everyone sees everyone. They see auditions with a Casting Director’s eye. We focus on how to book the job. They see why someone else is getting the job and they aren’t. Techniques. What drives the scene. Scene objectives. Being specific. Eye contact. Ear contact. Timing. Pacing. Transitions. They learn when the scene is about them and when it isn’t. Students help other students, and themselves, by giving notes and feedback to each other on scenes. Do’s and Don’ts. We work on every type of role from Series Regulars to One-Liners. Cost is $250
